Bill Caption
Relating to health benefit plan coverage of prescription contraceptive drugs.
Fiscal Notes
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
Bill Analysis
HB 937 would require certain health insurance plans, including public benefit plans, that cover
prescription contraceptive drugs to allow a woman to obtain up to a twelve month
supply of the drug.
Vote Recommendation Notes
Texas Action opposes HB 937 because it violates our limited government and free market principles. Creating new insurance mandates constitutes government overreach, distorts free
markets, and will likely increase the already excessive cost of health
insurance. A better way to make prescription contraceptive drugs more affordable would be to abolish the prescription requirement and allow them to be sold over the counter.
