Relating to the establishment of a collaborative task force to study certain public school mental health services.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 906 would create The Collaborative Task Force on Public School Mental Health Services to study and evaluate: (1) mental health services that are funded by the state and provided at a school district or open-enrollment charter school; (2) training provided to an educator employed by those schools; and (3) the impact of these mental health services. Members of the task force would not receive compensation or reimbursement for their service.

The commissioner would designate one higher education institution with experience in evaluating mental health services to serve as the lead institution for the task force. The institution would provide faculty, staff, and administrative support services to the task force as determined necessary. Two other higher education institutions would be tasked with assisting the task force and lead institution. The task force would gather data and make recommendations on the effectiveness and outcomes of the mental health services.

The task force would be abolished on December 1, 2025.
