Bill Caption

Relating to voting rights and eligibility for office of residents of certain districts subject to a strategic partnership agreement.

Fiscal Notes

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 802 would allow qualified voters who reside in conservation and reclamation districts which become annexed by a municipality for limited purposes to vote in municipal elections. These residents would not be eligible to run for municipal office, however.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action supports HB 802 on the basis of limited government and property rights. Allowing affected citizens to vote in municipal elections if the municipality has annexed their area for strategic partnership purposes enhances the property rights of those citizens.
