Bill Caption

Relating to the termination of the contract of a superintendent of a school district based on malfeasance.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 769 would prohibit a school board from giving a superintendent a severance payment in the event that superintendent was terminated for cause or for a financial exigency that requires a reduction in personnel, or who was not renewed for cause, or if the superintendent resigned in lieu of termination or nonrenewal for cause.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action recommends supports HB 769 because it promotes our principle of limited government. This bill would help prevent superintendents who are fired for cause or resign just before being fired or nonrenewed for cause from receiving a generous severance package.
