Bill Analysis

HB 766 would exempt firefighters from paying tuition and fees at public institutions of higher education if they were permanently disabled while performing duties of a firefighters. This exemption currently exists for peace officers.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action recommends opposing HB 766 because it violates our principle of limited government. Exempting a specific group from paying tuition at a public university or college would shift the burden to others.
