Bill Analysis

An unmarked 19th century burial site that contains the remains of numerous inmates was recently uncovered in Sugar Land, Texas and has become a local issue.

HB 4179 would allow Fort Bend County to own and operate a cemetery. The bill would additionally allow the county to use public funds, county employees, county inmate labor, and county equipment to maintain a cemetery as long as it is at least 50 years old (changed from having a grave marker more than 50 years old).
