Bill Analysis
This bill would exempt firefighters, fire chiefs, police officers, and police chief's from serving on jury duty.
Vote Recommendation Notes
Texas Action is neutral on HB 354 because it does not affect any of our liberty principles. This bill technically reduces the pool of potential jurors but probably has no material impact on the actual makeup of juries since fire department personnel and law enforcement officers are unlikely to be selected for jury service. To the extent that this would prevent the time of these public servants from being wasted while going through the jury selection process, this is likely good public policy.
