HB 3000 would require school districts and open-enrollment charter schools to provide written notice to a parent of a student enrolled in the district of a data breach involving the student's information within 30 days after the date on which the district becomes aware of the breach. The district must submit to the Texas Education Agency (TEA) a report on the data breach within 60 days. TEA would establish an electronically searchable database that contains information regarding each reported district data breach.
