Relating to powers and duties concerning records of the General
Land Office.
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
HB 2971 would make certain statutory requirements, related to the General Land Office's (GLO) responsibility to prepare a revision and compilation of certain volumes of abstracts of patented, titled, and surveyed real property which were previously made by the land office, permissive rather than required.
The bill would also revise the Save Texas History and Adopt-A-Beach programs to allow the GLO to use cash, gifts, grants, donations, or in-kind contributions the GLO receives through the Save Texas History Program to preserve, conserve, and promote the land offices's records, provide educational programming and resources on Texas History, and acquire additional records to compliment the GLO's existing records.
Texas Action remains neutral on HB 2971 as it is an administrative bill which expands the purposes of an existing program but does not create or expand public funding for the program and therefore does not affect our liberty principles.
