The bill would make no appropriation but could provide the legal basis for an appropriation of funds to implement the provisions of the bill
HB 2824 would reestablish a writing assessment pilot program that previously was created in 2015. The pilot program would be in effect through the 2022-2023 school year. The commissioner of the Texas Education Agency (TEA) would be required to create a committee to assist the TEA with the pilot program. Participating school districts would be prohibited from administering the normally required writing assessment while participating in the pilot program.
