Bill Analysis
HB 2576 would amend the Health and Safety Code to include sickle cell anemia among the list of illnesses that allow prescribers an exception from asking a patient's prescription history. This exemption is already allowed for patients that have a diagnosis of cancer or are receiving hospice level care. The exemption would apply to all drugs that are classified as an opioid, benzodiazepine, barbiturate, or carisoprodol.
Vote Recommendation Notes
Since this is not a matter that concerns liberty principles, Texas Action has a neutral stance toward HB 2576.
