Bill Caption
Relating to requiring candidates to pay a filing fee or submit a petition in lieu of a filing fee to appear on the ballot for the general election for state and county officers.
Fiscal Notes
Estimated Two-year Net Impact to General Revenue Related Funds for HB 2504, Committee Report 1st House, Substituted: a positive impact of $230,000 through the biennium ending August 31, 2021. The bill would make no appropriation but could provide the legal basis for an appropriation of funds to implement the provisions of the bill.
Bill Analysis
HB 2504 would require a candidate nominated for state or
county office at a state convention to either pay a filing fee or submit a petition in lieu of a filing fee. The filing fee would be equal to the filing fee for the same office in a general primary election. The petition option
would likewise require the same number of signatures as would be required if the person was running for the same office in a general primary election.
Vote Recommendation Notes
HB 2054 is an administrative bill regarding ballot access for people nominated at a state convention rather than through the primary election process. This bill does not appear to have a connection to our liberty principles and we remain neutral.
