Bill Caption

Relating to a mandatory term of confinement for defendants placed on community supervision for the criminal offense of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in the death of a person.

Fiscal Notes

The Legislative Budget Board does not expect any significant fiscal impact to the state.

Bill Analysis

HB 2502 would require a judge granting community supervision to a defendant convicted leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident causing the death of a person to serve at least 120 days in confinement as a condition of community supervision.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action is neutral on HB 2502 as it neither advances nor hinders any of our liberty principles. The bill would simply make the minimum punishment for fleeing the scene of a motor vehicle accident that caused the death of a person the same as the penalty for intoxicated manslaughter.
