Relating to prompt payment of claims to certain physicians and healthcare providers.

Bill Analysis

HB 1914 would update Insurance Code to specify the rules for calculating the penalty if an insurance company fails to promptly pay a claim by a physician or provider. The bill stipulates that for calculating a penalty rate would be "the contracted rate for the health care service provided by the physician or provider is the usual and customary rate for the service in the geographic area in which the service is provided."

Vote Recommendation Notes

This is an administrative bill updating an already-regulated facet of the interaction between insurers and health care providers and physicians. There is no apparent connection to our liberty principles and we remain neutral.
