Fiscal Notes

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 1883 would provide property tax deferred payment privileges for all active duty members of the U.S. Armed Forces (changed from members of U.S. Armed Forces during a war or national emergency).  Any taxes not paid after the 60 day exemption period would accrue interest at an annual rate of 6%. Penalties would not apply.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action opposes HB 1883 for violating the principle of limited government by expanding a special tax deferral privilege for a preferred class of people. While recognizing the good intentions of this bill in honoring our military personnel, we oppose giving special tax treatment to preferred classes of people.
