Bill Caption

Relating to coverage for mammography under certain health benefit plans.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 170 would require certain health insurance plans for state employees and Medicaid programs that provide coverage for screening mammograms to also provide coverage for a diagnostic mammogram that is no less favorable than the coverage for a screening mammogram.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action recommends opposing this bill as it infringes upon the principles of limited government and free markets. We generally oppose insurance mandates that inevitably increase the cost of health insurance and pass that cost on to the insureds.
