Bill Analysis

HB 1618 would make surviving family members of a member of the Texas Military Forces who is killed while on state active duty eligible for state death benefits which are currently payable to the surviving spouse, children, or parents of a number of other public servants killed in the line of duty. The state death benefit would only be payable if the surviving family member is not otherwise eligible for a federal death benefit.
