Bill Caption

Relating to the continuation and functions of the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 1520 is the sunset review legislation for the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy. The bill would extend the board's operations until 2031 and would make some changes to the board's operation, including changes to training programs, requiring fingerprint-based background checks for certified public accountant applicants, and requiring applicants to pay an associated fee.

Vote Recommendation Notes

HB 1520 would infringe on our principles of individual liberty, free markets, and limited government by codifying fingerprint-based background checks for certified public accountants. We oppose HB 1520 unless amended to strike this provision.
