Bill Caption

Relating to including a civics test in the graduation requirements for public high school students and to eliminating the United States history end-of-course assessment instrument.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 1244 would require high school US History end of course exams to include 10 randomly assigned questions from the civics test given during the naturalization process. These questions would be required to align with the essential knowledge and skills for U.S. History.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Although this bill does not have an effect on our liberty principles, we are amicable to the idea of a civics test being administered in public schools.
