Bill Caption

Relating to the compatibility of a high-speed rail facility with multiple types of train technology.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

SB 981 would require a private entity that constructs a high-speed rail facility to make that facility compatible with more than one type of train technology.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Requiring a private company to develop projects so as to allow competitors to use their project as well is not only contrary to principle of free markets but it is also a burdensome government mandate that violates our principles of limited government. It is foreseeable that such a mandate would drive up construction costs and ultimately drive up ticket prices for consumers. For these reasons, we oppose SB 981.
