Bill Caption
Relating to certain images captured by an unmanned aircraft.
Fiscal Notes
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
Bill Analysis
Under current law, capturing an image using an unmanned aircraft is permitted for specific purposes, such as utility inspection, real estate sales activities, and land surveying. SB 838 would allow the use of an unmanned aircraft for the capturing of images related to delivering consumer goods ordered through a website or mobile application as long as the operator is approved by the FAA.
Vote Recommendation Notes
This bill supports the principles of limited government, individual liberty, and the free market by allowing the use of drones at the state level for certain commercial purposes such as Amazon's attempted drone delivery system. For this reason, we support SB 838.
