Bill Caption
Relating to the instructional material list and supplemental instructional materials adopted by the State Board of Education.
Fiscal Notes
No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
Bill Analysis
This bill would require that all instructional and supplementary materials, that are in use by teachers, be suitable for the subject and grade level for which the material was submitted and be reviewed by academic experts in the subject and grade level for which the instructional material was submitted.
Vote Recommendation Notes
Ensuring that instructional material and supplemental instructional material are subject and grade level appropriate is a good idea, however it is unclear that this bill would actually achieve its own aims. We note that the language "suitable for the subject and grade level for which
the instructional material was submitted" is not statutorily defined and therefore is subjective and open to interpretation. For these reasons we remain neutral on SB 801.
