Bill Caption

Relating to the authority of a code enforcement officer when performing official duties to possess or carry an instrument used for deterring the bite of an animal.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

Under current law, a code enforcement officer is prohibited from carrying a club. SB 772 would permit such an officer to carry a club or "bite stick" to deter the bite of an animal if they hold a certificate of registration.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill supports the principle of individual liberty by permitting a code enforcement officer to carry a club insofar as it enables them to protect themselves from being bitten by an animal in the course of discharging their duties. For this reason, we support SB 772.
