Bill Caption
Relating to the authority of the General Land Office to sell retail
electric power.
Fiscal Notes
Estimated two-year net impact: a positive impact of $4,500,000 through the biennium ending August 31, 2019.
Bill Analysis
Under current law, the commissioner of the General Land Office is authorized to sell retail electric power and natural gas to certain governmental entities. SB 736 would remove the ability of the GLO to sell retail electric power, but still allow the sale of natural gas.
Vote Recommendation Notes
SB 736 upholds free market principles by prohibiting the GLO from acting as a retail electric provider. In this capacity they act as a competitor to private retail electric providers which is not the proper role of a limited government. For supporting free market and limited government principles, we support SB 736.
