Bill Caption
Relating to itemizing certain public notice expenditures in political subdivision budgets.
Fiscal Notes
No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
Bill Analysis
Under current law, political subdivisions are required by law to publish notices in newspapers for a variety of purposes. SB 622 would require the annual budgets of these political subdivisions to include a line item which compares the anticipated expenses allocated to notices in the proposed budget and actual expenses on notices spent in the preceding year.
Vote Recommendation Notes
This bill supports the principle of limited government by creating greater transparency and clarity in comparing the money spent by political subdivisions on legal notices. For this reason, we support SB 622.
