Bill Caption

Relating to guidelines for prescribing opioid antagonists.

Fiscal Notes

From the LBB: No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

This bill would require the Texas Medical Board to adopt guidelines for prescription of opioid antagonists. The bill also has a provision stating that physicians would not be subject to civil or criminal liability for prescribing or failing to prescribe an opioid antagonist or for any resulting outcome if they acted in good faith and with reasonable care.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Because this is a permissive program that would not mandate doctors follow a specific prescribing pattern or hold them liable for an action taken outside of these guidelines if done in good faith, we view this bill as one that does not directly affect our principles. Therefore, we remain neutral.
