Bill Caption

Relating to required training for veterans county service officers and assistant veterans county service officers.

Fiscal Notes

From the Legislative Budget Board: no significant fiscal implication to the state is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

Under current law, an appointed veterans county service officer and assistant veterans county service officer must complete a course of initial training. To maintain certification, the offices must complete continuing training required by the Texas Veterans Commission.

SB 544 would allow initial and continuing training to be provided by the commission or a public or private entity approved by the commission.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill enhances our limited government principle by expanding the options for the Texas Veterans Commission to provide training for certain appointed officers in the most effective manner. We support SB 544.
