Bill Caption

Relating to the composition of the board of directors of the State Bar of Texas.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

Under current law, the president of the board of directors of the State Bar of Texas is required to appoint four minority member directors. SB 416 would require the president to instead appoint four outreach directors. Outreach directors would not be required to be from a particular background, but would be required to have demonstrated sensitivity and knowledge necessary to represent the interests of attorneys from varied backgrounds.

Vote Recommendation Notes

SB 416 neither uplifts nor offends our liberty principles, therefore we remain neutral.
