Bill Caption

Relating to the repeal of certain laws regulating the sale or transfer of secondhand watches.

Fiscal Notes

From the Legislative Budget Board: no fiscal implication to the state is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

Under current law, it is a misdemeanor to sell or transfer secondhand watches without following a detailed procedure as proscribed in statute regarding notice, receipts, record keeping, and advertising. This is an archaic law that was instituted in response to heavy counterfeiting decades ago. SB 350 would repeal this law.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill enhances our free market and limited government principles by removing a regulation. It is not the role of government to regulate what type of watches may be sold or transferred or to micromanage the conditions under which they may be sold. We support SB 350.
