Bill Analysis

Under current law, Chapter 752 of the Government Code establishes the Office of Immigration and Refugee Affairs and the Governor’s Advisory Committee on Immigration and Refugees. SB 260 would repeal this chapter of the code, abolishing both groups, and divert the money, authority, contracts, and property to the Health and Human Services Commission.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill upholds the principle of limited government by eliminating unnecessary agencies and consolidating resources to the Department of Health and Human Services (where there is already an Office of Refugee Resettlement). For this reason, we support SB 260.
