Bill Caption

Relating to funding sources for the repayment of certain speech-language pathologist and audiologist education loans

Bill Analysis

Under current law, a repayment program aimed at offering assistance with education loan repayment for speech pathologists is solely funded by any gift or donation given through solicitation through the board. This bill would add a funding mechanism, that being, fees associated with obtaining speech pathology and audiologist licenses.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill violates our individual liberty and limited government principles. This is classic case redistribution of wealth; taking from one person in the form of a mandatory occupational licensing fee and giving to another to help pay down their student loans. The state should not be in the business of repaying student loans with other peoples' money. For these reasons, we oppose SB 247.
