Bill Caption
Relating to an increase in the fee for permits issued for the movement
of oversize or overweight vehicles carrying cargo in Hidalgo County.
Fiscal Notes
An impact of $0 through the biennium ending August 31, 2019.
The bill would make no appropriation but could provide the legal basis for an appropriation of
funds to implement the provisions of the bill.
Bill Analysis
Under current law, fees for permits issued for the transportation of oversized and overweight vehicles in Hidalgo County may not exceed $80. SB 2227 would set the maximum fee amount to $200.
A percentage of fees collected would be required to be used to leverage funding from other sources to construct or improve certain road and bridge projects.
Vote Recommendation Notes
Though we typically object to fee increases, in this instance the increase relates to a user fee in one specific county for the use of roads in that county. As such, SB 2227 neither uplifts nor offends our liberty principles, therefore we remain neutral.
