Bill Caption
Relating to the repeal of the high school allotment under the
Foundation School Program.
Fiscal Notes
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated, assuming implementation of the
bill's directive for the Basic Allotment to be increased in the General Appropriations Act.
Absent that action, the bill would result in a savings to the state of $789.2 million in the 2018-
19 biennium, increasing in subsequent years.
Bill Analysis
Senate Bill 2142 would repeal the high school allotment, which guarantees that high schools receive an extra $275 per average daily attended high school student and makes conforming changes to reflect the repeal.
Vote Recommendation Notes
This bill affirms our principle of limited government by eliminating a preferential allotment to high schools with the intent of reallocating those funds to the foundation school program. This would make school finance simpler and more transparent.
