Relating to limitations on the information reported by consumer reporting agencies.

Fiscal Notes

From the LBB: no fiscal implication to the state is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

SB 2127 would prohibit a consumer reporting agency from furnishing a consumer report containing information related to a collection account when a consumer had health insurance at the time of an event giving rise to the collection and the collection relates to billing for an outstanding balance owed to an emergency care provider or a facility-based provider for an out-of-network benefit claim.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Though well intended, this bill violates our free market and limited government principles by implementing an additional mandate on what a private consumer reporting agency can publish on credit reports. For this reason we oppose SB 2127.
