Bill Analysis
Under current law, the presiding officer of the governing body of a political subdivision may declare a local state of disaster. SB 1897 would require a declaration to include the description, location, and causes of the disaster. This bill would also require the posting of the declaration on the subdivision’s website and would allow a subdivision to request a suspension or waiver of a deadline from the governor (such as for a budget or tax) if it is reasonably necessary to cope with the disaster.
Vote Recommendation Notes
SB 1897 neither uplifts nor offends our liberty principles, therefore we remain neutral.
