Bill Analysis

SB 1873 would require the State Board of Education to publish a report on physical education classes using data received from school districts. The report would be required to include a number of specific pieces of information including the number of physical education classes offered at each campus in the district, the ratio of students enrolled  in physical education classes compared to overall enrollment, whether the district allows modifications or accommodations that allow physical education courses to accommodate the needs of students with disabilities, and other related information. This information must be published within a year of the data being collected.

Vote Recommendation Notes

It seems likely that this report would lead to future legislation proposing new physical education related state mandates on local school districts which we would likely oppose. However, we do remain neutral on the reporting requirement itself as it does not affect our liberty principles.
