Bill Caption
Relating to the award of attorney's fees in a judicial appeal of certain ad valorem tax determinations.
Fiscal Notes
No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
Bill Analysis
SB 1848 would raise the attorney’s fee limit from $15,000 to $27,000, or 20 percent of the total amount of the property owner’s tax liability reduction which cannot exceed $153,000. Both options are subject to cost of living adjustments.
Vote Recommendation Notes
SB 1848 does not appear to have a connection to our liberty principles, therefore we remain neutral. It is worth noting that this would likely provide greater access to help for property owners in disputing property tax issues, which would be a positive step.
