From the LBB: no significant fiscal implication to the state is anticipated.
Bill Analysis
SB 1733 would amend the Government Code to prohibit a governmental official from accepting, relying on, or otherwise using an identification document for the purpose of determining a person’s identity or residency unless the document is expressly authorized for that purpose. The Secretary of State would specify the documents that may be accepted by a governmental official. This bill would not affect state election laws.
Vote Recommendation Notes
This is a procedural bill regarding determining a person's identity that does not appear to have a connection to our liberty principles, therefore we remain neutral. That said, it is certainly within the legitimate role of the legislature to determine which forms of identification are suitable for government employees to use for verification of identification.
