Bill Caption

Relating to mosquito control districts established for an urgent public health purpose.

Fiscal Notes

From the LBB: No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

This bill would allow a county that is located on the international border with Mexico for which the department has documented a locally transmitted case of the Zika virus or a county adjacent to one of those counties to establish an urgent public health mosquito control district on issuance of order by a county judge or commissioners court.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill would allow county governments with a Zika problem to establish mosquito control districts. This is a proper role of local government since it represents a public health crisis that may be remedied by controlled mosquito population. For this reason, we support this bill.
