Relating to the authority of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles over real property, including the transfer of specific property from the Texas Department of Transportation.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

Under current law, the Texas Facilities Commission provide facilities management services and manages the building construction, acquisition, and disposition of real property to the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles.

Senate Bill 1349 would amend current Government Code by adding a subsection that would grant the Department of Motor Vehicles authority over the management of property including the construction, acquisition, and disposition of real property.

Vote Recommendation Notes

While authority to make administrative changes to the rules regulating state agencies is clearly within the legitimate responsibility of the government, the provisions of this bill have no relationship to our liberty principles. Senate Bill 1349 neither uplifts nor offends our liberty principles, therefore we remain neutral.
