Bill Analysis
Under current law, for a person to be eligible for a cosmetology operator license, they must complete 1,500 hours of instruction in a licensed beauty culture school, along with other requirements. The holder of a private beauty culture school license is required to have a school term be no less than nine months and not less than 1,500 hours of instruction to be considered a complete course in cosmetology. Students seeking an operator license may also request early examination if they have already completed 1,000 hours in an approved training program.
SB 1087 would reduce the number of: hours of required instruction to obtain a cosmetology operator license to be 1,000 hours; months to be no less than six and hours of instruction to be no less than 1,000 for a school term to be considered a complete course; and completed hours required for early examination to be 900 hours.
