Bill Analysis

This bill would clarify that electronic data related to campaign finance reports that is saved in temporary storage at the authority with whom the report was filed for later retrieval is confidential and not subject to public information requests until after the report is filed with the authority.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This change is in keeping with the principle of individual liberty as it protects an individual's right to privacy until the campaign finance report is filed with the authority. An initial unfinished report should not become public information because it could lead people to draw wrong conclusions based in incomplete information. For these reasons we support HB 998.
