Bill Analysis

Under current law, board members of the Texas Indigent Defense Commission serve staggered terms of two years, with two members’ terms expiring February 1st of each odd-numbered year. HB 978 would have board members serve staggered terms of six years, with one or two members’ terms expiring February 1st of each odd-numbered year.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This is a procedural bill  regarding the terms of the board members of the Texas Indigent Defense Commission that does not appear to have a connection to our liberty principles, therefore we remain neutral.
