Bill Analysis

This is a local bill. HB 967 would allow the Texamericas Center to promote regional economic development and job creation inside and outside of the district's boundaries in Bowie County and adjacent counties. Additionally, it would allow them to create a nonprofit corporation to undertake special projects, but the corporation would have no eminent domain powers.

Vote Recommendation Notes

The existence of the Texamericas Center as a government agency and political subdivision to promote the development of new businesses, industries, and commercial activities is an improper role of government. HB 967 further expands its powers, therefore we oppose this bill.
