Bill Caption
Relating to school marshals for private schools.
Fiscal Notes
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
Bill Analysis
There is no provision in current law allowing private schools to hire a school marshal. This bill would permit private schools to hire a school marshal at a ratio of one marshal per 200 students. This bill would also set boundaries on the way private schools can hire school marshals; including the requirement that if private schools hire marshals, than they must be able to conceal carry on grounds, in a way that the school's governing board sees fit.
Vote Recommendation Notes
Because this is a permissive program that would allow private schools a method to better protect their students, HB 867 affirms our principles of limited government, individual liberty, property rights, and personal responsibility. We support this bill.
