Bill Caption
Relating to coverage for treatment of craniofacial abnormalities under certain health benefit plans.
Fiscal Notes
No significant fiscal implication to the state is anticipated.
Bill Analysis
HB 831 would amend the Insurance Code to require a health benefit plan that provides coverage for reconstructive surgery for craniofacial abnormalities to provide coverage for the treatment of the primary conditions constituting craniofacial abnormalities and secondary conditions related to or arising from craniofacial abnormalities.
Vote Recommendation Notes
This bill violates our free market and limited government principles by mandating private insurers offer certain coverage. It is not a role of government to regulate coverage offered in an agreed upon contract between an insurer and consumer. For these reasons, we oppose HB 831.
