Bill Analysis

HB 827 would amend the Labor Code to require the Texas Workforce Commission to develop a web-searchable database through which prospective employers can qualify a veteran’s military service experience and employment qualifications.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Providing for veteran reintegration is properly done at the federal level. In fact, the Veterans Administration already operates a database similar to the one proposed by this legislation. Numerous private nonprofit organizations also focus on helping veterans re-integrate into civilian life. Despite being honorably intentioned, this legislation duplicates a program already in place at the appropriate level of government and consequently unnecessarily increases the scope of state government. For these reasons we oppose HB 827.
