Bill Analysis
This bill repeals the sunset provision for Medicaid reimbursement for home telemonitoring services, meaning that Medicaid would continue to provide reimbursement for these services past 2019. The bill also adds more patients as eligible for telemonitoring services, including pediatric patients with chronic or complex medical needs that are being concurrently treated by at least three specialists and are diagnosed with end stage solid organ disease, have received an organ transplant, or are diagnosed with severe asthma. Lastly, the bill would provide reimbursement for a provider if the data transmission is unsuccessful if the provider attempts to communicate with the patient for the purpose of establishing successful data transmission.

Home telemonitoring services are very important for preventive care in patients with chronic conditions. Preventive care is better for patients since problems are caught faster, and less expensive for the state to pay for. Keeping Medicaid reimbursements for home telemonitoring services will likely save the state money in the long run and continue to help patients by providing preventive care. Therefore we support this bill.
