Bill Caption
Relating to notice by a state agency regarding certain contracts
for which the actual cost exceeds the contracted amount.
Fiscal Notes
From the LBB: no significant fiscal implication to the state is anticipated.
Bill Analysis
HB 579 would amend the Government Code to require notice to the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, legislature, Legislative Budget Board, and state auditor's office when a state agency contract to purchase services from a vendor for which the actual cost of the service exceeds the amount contracted for by $1 million or more.
Vote Recommendation Notes
This bill enhances our limited government principle by increasing transparency of agency contracts when they are vastly over budget so appropriate actions may be taken. We support HB 579.
