Relating to transferring the Office for the Prevention of Developmental Disabilities to The University of Texas at Austin and renaming the office the Office for Healthy Children.
The Texas Office for Prevention of Developmental Disabilities (TOPDD) is scheduled to be eliminated on September 1, 2017 and its functions absorbed within HHSC. The purpose of this bill is to preserve the office and continue its function. That is something we do not agree with. We believe in eliminating duplicative or unnecessary government agencies. Instead of preserving this office, it should be allowed to expire.
For these reasons, we oppose HB 3842.
